What does the title of a thread express?
The count of a thread is the number that represents the relationship between its length and its weight. It is used to express the thickness or diameter of the thread and indicates its fineness.
Linear Density defines the degree of fineness and quality of a thread expressed based on its length and weight parameters. Fineness is the economic evaluation measure used in the textile industry for natural fibers, threads and yarns.
With the Indirect Titration system (for animal and plant fibers) the thread count is obtained from the relationship between a length (variable) and a weight (fixed). The larger the number expressed in the count, the finer the thread.
The metric (indirect) title takes the 1000 meter skein as the unit of length and the kilogram as the unit of weight. For example, if you have several coils with a length of 25,000 m. and with a weight of 1 kg., the thread has a metric count of 25.
